A sapphire and diamond crescent brooch from circa 1880. This Victorian era brooch has an estimated 2.70ct of sapphires and 0.15ct of diamonds. The 17 graduated round cut sapphires are all gem quality with a fantastic brightness that indicates they were most likely mined in Sri Lanka. The 16 diamonds are a mixture of rose cut and old cut diamonds. A clear indicator that the brooch is from the 1800's is the use of silver as the white metal in which the stones are set, later pieces would use platinum or white gold.
