Sixth Wedding Anniversary

Iron

Traditionally a horseshoe made of iron was given to a couple to bring good luck by keeping evil spirits from entering the home. Iron symbolises the sixth year of marriage. This metal is durable, dependable and lasts a lifetime. The longer the couple work together the stronger their love will last. When a couple receives a gift of iron, it will symbolically bring them strength and good luck in their marriage.

The sixth year anniversary flower is a Calla Lily which represents the wonderful beauty of six years of marriage. The flower name comes from the Greek word for 'beautiful'.

Amethyst is the gemstone for this anniversary year. Because of its wine-like colour, early Greek legends associated amethyst with Bacchus, the god of wine. It was believed to prevent intoxication - amethystos means “not drunk” in ancient Greek. The patron of love St. Valentine, wore an amethyst ring carved with the image of Cupid.
